The Red White and Blue Lessons
Developed as a musical and role-playing approach to learning the Core Democratic Values and American principles outlined in the Michigan Curriculum Framework. Using historical characters, patriotic songs, and a little acting, students
can understand the effects of Democratic principles in American society.
CD One contains six lessons. Each lesson has a historical reference, songs and a role-playing activity related to the core democratic values. The lessons are:
These lessons include role-playing fun, American songs and speeches that explore the meaning of each of the core democratic values : Patriotism, Diversity, Equality, Truth, Common Good, Popular Sovereignty, Life, Liberty, Pursuit of Happiness and Justice. Students play famous Americans such as Betsy Ross, Rosa Parks, Abe Lincoln, George W. Bush and Martin Luther King Jr. and sing a dozen traditional patriotic songs (God Bless America, Yankee Doodle, This Land is Your Land, We Shall Overcome, Star Spangled Banner...and more) as well as the Core Democratic Values Song. It's a learning "experience" designed for second through sixth graders! CD Two contains the individual songs for student sing-alongs. CD 2 contains an additional PowerPoint presentation for use with the Red, White and Blue Museum program. |
